Rope Bondage 101

by The Twisted Bear on April 14, 2009

Bondage and rope play is great fun even for newbys. It’s a little less intimidating than the cattle prod! Just remember to be aware of things like and tingling and numbness – theses are warning signs from your body about circulation.

Rope Bondage

  • Always keep a pair of safety shears handy. We know you love your ropes, but safety always comes first!
  • Don’t pass rope across the front of the neck.
  • Avoid the back of the knee – potential for tendon and nerve damage.
  • Avoid the suspending from underarms – again potential nerve damage possible.
  • No suspension (supported line) unless the rope is rated.
  • Use separate pieces of rope for wrists then tend to fall asleep easily.
  • If it tingles or becomes numb – tell your rigger – untie at once. Once again potential for nerve damage.
  • Use caution with inversion play particularly if there is a history of high blood pressure. If there are any difficulties breathing, bring the person down immediately.
  • If your playing with plus-size folks there tends to be greater sensitivity, less flexibility and greater concerns around breathing and circulation – check in frequently.
  • Avoid rope burns – put your fingers between the moving rope and the body.
  • If you need to cut it, CUT IT!! Yea, we know we said it twice because it is important.
